2023 Annual Summary, Preparing for 2024

Annual Summary#

Side Business#

Bilibili#

In 2023, the number of followers on Bilibili increased from 1160 to 2276, a growth rate of 96.2%. Compared to last year's plan of 3500 followers, it fell short significantly. Therefore, for 2024, to be on the safe side, the plan is to reach 4325 followers, with an approximate growth rate of 90%.

The traffic on Bilibili was also far from the expected 401,200, only reaching 336,000. In relation to the increase in followers, the view count was also somewhat disappointing, growing by 147%. Given this, the plan for 2024 is to achieve a view count of 830,000.

WeChat Official Account#

I am actually quite satisfied with the content of my WeChat official account, growing from 1053 followers to 2575, which is only a small gap from my 2022 plan of 2700. Therefore, I plan to maintain the same growth rate for 2024 as in 2023, aiming for a 150% increase, targeting 6400 followers.

After a year of continuous reflection and accumulation, I feel that the quantity of content doesn't matter; what matters is that the output is of quality, thoughtful, and altruistic. Although it sounds utilitarian, this is the realization I came to in 2023.

This section discusses side businesses, but it hasn't generated much substantial income. The focus for 2024 will shift towards making money 💰.

Work#

Passing the PMP certification has resolved a major concern for me. I originally registered during the pandemic, but the official postponements kept delaying the exam, and I didn't pass the first attempt. The PMP is said to have a 90% pass rate, but I indeed failed. Fortunately, I happened to take the exam just as the PMP version was changing, which granted me a free retake opportunity, and I managed to pass the PMP on that attempt. It was a great value—two exams with two 2B pencils; in short, I passed 😉.

Financial Management#

Although it's called financial management, I haven't really managed my finances. I always feel busy with everything. Thankfully, Yimu Accounting can automate bookkeeping, but certain expenses can't be recorded properly, like those without passwords or family cards. Next year, I must commit to serious bookkeeping, detailing every transaction and completing a monthly review 💪.

Health#

In the first half of the year, I was on Western medicine for high blood lipids. Starting in November, I switched to traditional Chinese medicine, and my blood lipids have slightly decreased from a peak of over 9. I must say, traditional Chinese medicine is indeed expensive and slow in effect. I consulted at a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, and the local hospital doctors said they couldn't prescribe medication based on the clinic's prescriptions, so I couldn't use health insurance and had to pay out of pocket. I hope to completely say goodbye to hyperlipidemia next year.

During the health check in the second half of the year, I discovered an 11mm nodule in my lung, which is not small. I went to another hospital near my home and found that a CT scan done during the Spring Festival in 2022, when I had a fever from COVID, had already shown the nodule. However, since the focus was on whether the lungs had ground-glass opacities, and the doctor on duty that night missed it, the nodule went unnoticed. I hope the nodule can maintain its size next year. If possible, I hope it shrinks a bit, as I can't let the traditional Chinese medicine 🌿 go to waste!

The only good news regarding health is that my previous kidney stones have turned into small crystals.

Software#

This year, I recommended five software applications: Yimu Accounting, TickTick, Quicker, WPS, and QiReader.
Yimu Accounting is a bookkeeping tool with automated features. I recommended it last year and continue to do so this year.

TickTick is my daily to-do tool. I have abandoned Uptimer, which I used last year, and Time Log, which I bought mid-year, because I just can't use the Lyubishchev time method, so I switched to TickTick~
FinalImage_20231231-070716.jpg
Quicker is an automation tool for computers that brings up a menu with CTRL, allowing you to select your actions to execute them. Although I find Quicker quite ugly, I previously used Utools and discovered that many features couldn't be achieved with it, so I ultimately switched back to Quicker.

WPS is a software I previously underestimated. I always thought Microsoft was superior and smooth. However, one night while working overtime, I organized 160,000 rows of data and found that using Excel required splitting columns and using formulas. The next day, I asked a colleague how he managed, and he said he used WPS to directly remove spaces. I was instantly crushed, having struggled until after 1 AM the night before just because I didn't use WPS. After trying WPS, I must say it's incredibly useful; it truly understands the needs of Chinese users!
image.png
QiReader is an RSS software I highly recommend. I have read numerous RSS feeds with it, and it opens original articles for content that is nutritious or interesting, while other content is simply skipped, expanding my horizons while filtering out junk information, allowing me to absorb more valuable content 👍.

As a side note, I didn't complete many of the planned tasks last year 🤣; indeed, plans are meant to be broken. However, I did well on one flag. I want to commend myself for sticking to daily vocabulary memorization. Although there are always a few days each month when I forget to memorize, I've managed to persist through the year. I initially planned to memorize all the IELTS vocabulary before the new year, but after a few days of trying, I decided against it; haste makes waste, so I will take it step by step!
FinalImage_20231231-080545.jpg

Let me share the success of my small plan. First, the plan is balanced; memorizing 15 words a day won't overwhelm me with a large number of words and reviews. Secondly, sharing daily in the accountability group encourages mutual motivation among group members. I also warmly welcome anyone who wants to join me in accountability (not limited to vocabulary memorization; learning, fitness, painting, morning runs, reading, etc., are all welcome). We can form a 2024 accountability group to improve together 👍.

Books, Movies, and TV Shows#

📚#

Most of the books were read through WeChat Reading. Here are the books I read this year:
FinalImage_20231231-091708.jpg

The Kite Runner ⭐️ is a fantastic book, incredibly engaging. It's a story of love/family and redemption that traverses mountains for you countless times.

To Kill a Mockingbird ⭐️ is a brilliant book; the protagonist's father is so elegant, and the deceased old lady is truly a remarkable person. The protagonist is brave and decisive, delivering a passionate speech that silences the crowd. Initially, I thought there was nothing to see in a bunch of kids' stories, but later I realized there is much to learn from Alex.

The Cry ⭐️ is a remarkable book that discusses the difficulties of survival in life, with a timeline moving in opposite directions, telling the story from the perspectives of the female protagonist and a female police officer. The various twists give a feeling reminiscent of reading Higashino Keigo's works.

The Three-Body Problem ⭐️ is a scientific work; Luo Ji is truly impressive. The inevitable fate for humanity is destruction; welcome the arrival of the Three-Body!

13.67 ⭐️ is an excellent detective story told in reverse, detailing the growth of a detective genius, with each story highlighting an important period in their development.

The Letter ⭐️ How can Higashino Keigo write so many cases? What has he experienced?

Human Extinction is still by a Japanese author, still with a timeline moving in opposite directions, and it starts off slowly. It involves a lot of knowledge about cybersecurity, making it relatable.

We Three records life in a plain manner, taking you into the author's world.

Me and the Earth Altar can be considered Shi Tiesheng's autobiography, similar in style to We Three. Me and the Earth Altar is very suitable for patients to read, transitioning from a healthy person to amputation, from complaining to taking action; the change in mindset is worth learning for everyone!

Delivering Express in Beijing attracted me with its title. Can someone who delivers express packages write a book? (No disrespect to any profession) The author writes very realistically, revealing a different world: the life of night shift sorting. It might be better if more documentaries focused on this perspective, but this perspective is destined not to be profitable.

Visitors to the Island is the second part of the Island series; the story is okay, but I always thought there were zombies on the island.

Sweet Death for the Famous Detective is the third part of the Island series, giving a sense of the spirits of Baker Street.

The Story is Only Half Told is close to life; many things in life just don't have an ending. I really want to know what the conclusion of the story is!

The Escort is a fun comic.

Awakening of Cognition is well written, but I can't awaken. Different people have different opinions.

Before the Miracle Arrives is not interesting.

The Corpse Puppet is an old serialized novel from Tianya; the plot seems quite cliché when viewed now.

ps: The Art of War and Jian Shang are not included in the statistics as I haven't finished them.

🎬#

Here are the movies, TV shows, and animations I watched this year:
1eabcf2d3262b81ad423c93821be953.jpg
Restarting Life ⭐️ is a fantastic drama where everything that appears is a foreshadowing. You must stick with it until the end of the first episode! While watching Restarting Life, I wondered if I should be like Xiao Fu, recognizing reality. Having a side business dream is good, but relying on it for a living is impossible, at least for me personally.

Painting Jianghu: The Bad People & Painting Jianghu: The Heavenly Gang ⭐️ are both great; this is what domestic animation should be!

Attack on Titan ⭐️ The enemy is beyond the sea; from the first season to the last, it has become a battle against myself! The game God's Balance feels very similar to this plot!

A Long Season ⭐ At the end, winning the lottery is truly a big dream in life.

The Glory of Darkness is a dark revenge story; the suffering from bullying is as intense as the revenge.

Better Call Saul shows how Jimmy goes from a life winner to a low point; I can only say this person really knows how to stir things up.

The Wandering Earth 2 The time for mechanical ascension has arrived; the space elevator is truly impressive.

Full River Red I never memorized texts in school, and now I’m starting to memorize them after watching a movie?

Crazy Storm started off great but fell apart later; the beginning was fantastic, and the mysterious relationship between Zhang Yi and the crew was as exciting as the show itself.

Life Events there’s always one that has to go first.

Who is He is a police professional role played by Zhang Yi.

Imitation Criminals (Taiwan Version) I don't know how many times I've seen this story.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale The dog is so cute~

Model Taxi 2 Dare to shoot! Keeping up with current events, taking down scam dens.

Fast & Furious 10 Nothing is impossible, looking forward to how they survive the dam explosion. Also, why can't you learn from Mission: Impossible?

The Universe Exploration Editing Department is the Chinese version of Big Fish; it turns out everything is real.

The Disappearing Her Want to see the underwater starry sky? Gamblers can't get houses!

All In is great; stay away from online gambling!

Protecting Your Safety A promise is worth a thousand gold! Don't spread rumors or believe them!

West Out of the Jade Gate has a bit of a weak ending; I don't understand the conclusion at all.

Mission: Impossible 7 is exciting but not finished!

Chang'an 30,000 Miles +1 for understanding Li Tang's history.

Fengshen has cool special effects and detailed stories.

Not in Vain features Hu Ge as the protagonist, but it doesn't tell the story of ordinary people, not as good as Life Events.

P5R#

Persona
In 2023, I successfully completed P5R as planned. I must say, P5R is indeed impressive. A game from a few years ago has such innovative gameplay (of course, this is also related to the few games I have played). After finishing P5R, I was moved for a long time. When no one believes in you, your Phantom Thief companions will do everything possible to help you gather opinions from people at school, at work, in society, and online to change the misunderstanding of the Japanese police. The protagonist's high school life is also very exciting, going out to shop, exercising, working part-time, and gathering information after class. Throughout, the protagonist has companions, especially that passionate yellow-haired guy, whose name seems to be Ryuji.

Terraria#

I intermittently played pure summoning Terraria; the initial shock of the small pixel game has faded, leaving only the loneliness of mining alone.

God's Balance#

I don't know who recommended this game to me, but the content is really good, somewhat similar to Parasyte. The early game has a certain difficulty, but there are ways to skip classes. I heard this game was made by one person over 14 years, which is truly impressive. Friends who like games can give it a try.

Honor of Kings#

This year, I officially quit Honor of Kings again because this game requires too much skill. If you don't play every day, your gameplay will decline significantly. Rather than working for the game every day, I might as well play some single-player games and do something else. Also, the game is meant to relax, but playing Honor of Kings can sometimes really raise your blood pressure, so I ultimately gave up on this game.

Dream of the Stars#

This game is a fusion of many elements: CF, Fall Guys, Beast Party, Werewolf, etc. No matter your age, you can probably play it. I particularly enjoy Werewolf; finally, there's a version of Goose Duck that doesn't require a VPN (speaking of which, I also played Goose Duck for a while this year). The only downside is that the player base is relatively small, and the game is quite high-spec, requiring many friends to enjoy it. Also, the age of the people attracted by Dream of the Stars may be younger; either you deceive children or they deceive you. I really can't deceive children, so I can only take them down 😄.

Night of the Full Moon#

A substitute for Hearthstone, it feels pretty good to play. I had previously played the single-player version. The only two drawbacks of Night of the Full Moon are the long wait times and the need to reinstall the package with each update.

Miscellaneous#

Blog#

The purpose of writing a blog is that one day when AI fully replaces humans, it can look at my podcast and discover that there were such human creations.
The fragmented notes that left the deepest impression on me were about writing a marathon. Writing a little bit every day eventually adds up, but the physical feeling of writing a marathon felt a bit heavy, so I gave up. In the end, I used FLOMO, and unexpectedly, after a year of scattered writing, I ended up with 13,000 words of nonsense.

I also casually wrote a few blog posts; in the new year, I will continue to work hard!

Audiobooks#

In the past year, I've listened to less music and more audiobooks. I finished Rebirth in the 80s, My Wife is a Bit Spicy and The Naming of the Night, both of which are excellent books.
I initially refused to listen to 80, but eventually accepted the recommendation and found it incredibly satisfying. It almost fulfills all the spiritual fantasies of entrepreneurs. I won't spoil it here; if you can think of ways to make money, this book has probably covered it all.
The Naming of the Night carries a youthful feeling throughout, with the protagonist exhibiting a resilient character, making it quite worth a listen (I'm too lazy to read the original).
FinalImage_20240102-012430.jpg

Music#

Due to listening to more audiobooks, I've listened to less music, but I still occasionally enjoy music. Although I've used NetEase Cloud Music less, I'm very grateful for its summary, which reminded me that I started listening to Xu Song ten years ago. It turns out I've been listening for so long; this can be considered a lost youth.

2024 Layout#

When setting goals, be sure not to set unattainable ones, as this can be exhausting and lead to a loss of motivation. Many people talk about the SMART principle, but I won't elaborate on that here.
Secondly, it's essential to recognize one's ordinariness because we are setting an ordinary annual plan, not a three-year or five-year plan. Therefore, we should accept our ordinary selves and make gradual changes, accumulating little by little, leading to qualitative changes from quantitative changes.

Side Business#

First, I need to clarify my positioning: I am a self-media blogger, a video content sharer. The sharing method is free; if problems arise along the way, I can try to solve them myself. If I can't, you can contact me for paid solutions.

I have encountered a few types of people that left a deep impression: one type is those who do not think at all and directly ask questions, treating you like ChatGPT. Even though they ask very politely, I initially responded politely, but now I just don't reply; another type is those who are very polite when seeking help but immediately block or delete you afterward; and there is another type that I feel is a hater, or a Notion hater, who constantly praises other software in my fan group. Whenever I share about Notion, he jumps in to promote their products, which is quite absurd; of course, I also encounter a small number of friends with whom I have a good relationship.

Initially, I thought I should be helpful, and refusing to help others would make me feel bad. However, I later realized that my time is also valuable. If someone wants my help without any cost, how is that different from making me work overtime for free?

Feel free to share your thoughts with me; this is a friendly exchange of techniques and ideas, and paid inquiries are also welcome.
